The eMulti-Trophic Ecosystem – a potential model for sustainable food production

Olivier Keech is assistant professor at the department of Plant Physiology, UPSC, Umeå University. For PLATSEN, he together with a team of scientists has built an experimental multi-trophic farming setup, comprising various approaches such as aquaculture, compost recycling, bioreactors as well as aero-/hydroponics. The setup proposes a potential model for sustainable food production.

Experiences from Sustainable Ålidhem – accessing smart data

Cinnober Makeathon Challenge

For two weeks in January 2016, students from Umeå University used Sliperiet to explore how to visualise and communicate complex financial data in the physical space - a challenge presented by Cinnober Financial Technology.

3D Motion Capture Demo

A Snail Under the Tumulus – an Architectural Project for an Archaeological Site

The Dolmen of Alberite was accidentally discovered in 1997, but was at risk of damage due to exposure to weather conditions. The need for protection for the megalithic monument was evident. This lecture by Jose Carlos Sanchez Romero, Architect at Interactive Institute Swedish ICT, illustrates how nature can be a source of inspiration, when finding innovative and rational design solutions in architecture.

Wearable Tech Panel and Presentations

As sensors and wearable devices is getting smaller, cheeper and more versatile we see an increased interest in and availability of devices related to health monitoring, cultural consumption, social interaction, financial transactions and more. Besides arguably making our lives "easier" these devices do potentially have a darker side, and criticism towards these technologies mainly concerns issues of personal integrity, corporate access and management of data as well as other perceived vulnerabilities in the systems surrounding
these devices.
