Ongoing Projects and Initiatives

Sliperiet acts both as a site and as a catalyst for research and innovation. We develop research areas and projects together with all faculties at Umeå University, and we initiate and  run collaborative projects with a large number of industry, as well as public and third sector partners.

Sliperiet are currently involved - either as project lead or key player in ten or so research and innovation projects with funding from:

- Tillväxtverket
- EU (ERDF)
- Vinnova
- Hakon Swensons Foundation
Umeå Municipality
- Region of Västerbotten
- Stiftelsen Marcus och Amalia Wallenbergs Minnesfond
- Balticgruppens donationsstiftelse

Four PhD students have been employed through these projects, in the areas of Business, Informatics, Applied Physics and Engineering. We also have a number of post docs employed within the projects that are running.

Sliperiet are very active in initiating new cross disciplinary collaborations. During 2016 we either initiated or participated as key partner in 15 larger applications, with more than thirty partners in academia and industry. We are currently either running collaborative projects, or have co-applied for funding in the following areas:

- Software for future customised fashion design
- Disruptive and norm creative innovation
